The first championship or title of any kind for the franchise, the AFC-champion New England Patriots met and defeated the NFC-champion St Louis Rams at Super Bowl XXXVI, at the Louisiana Superdome, on Feb 3, 2002. Led by MVP Tom Brady, the Pats took a 14-3 lead in the second quarter, and despite the Rams adding 14 points in the fourth, New England held on for a 20-17 victory. This 2001 New England Patriots Super Bowl XXXVI championship 14K gold and diamond ring was presented to the Pats' defensive back Je'Rod Cherry (tied for 3rd in ST tackles with 12 in 2001, Cherry also led the Pats' with 6 ST tackles during the team's Super Bowl run in the postseason), and it was originally raffled in 2008. At $2.00 per ticket with a minimum purchase of 5, the winner received this ring along with additional money to cover the taxes, with the raffle raising over $180,000, with proceeds going to Boston for Africa and Feed My Starving Children as well as Asia's Hope, a Christian organization that “builds homes and provides educational opportunities, food and medical care for orphaned children in Thailand, Cambodia and India”.
Size 11 with an approx weight of 69.90 grams, and featuring a Patriots emblem with reflective material in team colours with a diamond perimeter over an additional bed of diamonds flanked by "World Champions" in slanted, raised letters, there is also a perimeter of diamonds surrounding the bezel along with a single inserted diamond over each shank (for the precious stones, there is one marquise brilliant cut diamond measuring 7.0*x4.0*mm, one marquise brilliant cut diamond measuring 3.8*x2.1*mm and two marquise brilliant cut diamonds measuring 3.2*x1.8*mm - weighing approx .050ct in total gauge, along with two tapered baguette cut diamonds measuring approx 6.0*/5.2*x1.8*mm and weighing approx .30ct in total by gauge, and one hundred and thirty-eight (138) round brilliant cut diamonds measuring approx 1.1 to 1.8mm each and weighing approx 2.25cts in total by gauge). The right shank sports a Pats helmet with "30" below and "Cherry" above along with the season record of 14-5 (regular season and playoffs), while the left shank features the Vince Lombardi Trophy with inserted diamond with the score of the game above, and "USA" below. The inner band in stamped "Jostens 14K". Exhibiting wear from use with scratches to the band and top of the shanks, there are also a few small dings to edges of the band, with the large and heavy ring presenting sensationally overall.
