Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

“Do you have a Frank Mahovlich rookie card?” and “do you have a Henri Richard rookie card?” are questions that get asked over and over again at card/collectible shows with regards to 1957-58 Parkies, a testament to their desirability and insufficient supply for the hobby’s demand. That supply diminishes substantially when “high grade” comes into the equation, with thus a very special opportunity on the auction block here. The Big M’s coveted Parkhurst RC offered has remarkably survived in primo condition, boasting a striking not-toned white background that contributes to the overall eye candy. Like fellow rookie-of-the-year candidate Bobby Hull (the same year as cards like this were issued), Frank started out as a center and switched to left wing early in his career, with Mahovlich winning the Calder Trophy following his 20-goal rookie campaign. Over 500 more goals were racked up during his NHL career, with hometown fans in three Original Six cities getting to admire Frank striding down the ice in his trademark fashion. Achieving a mark of NM-MT+ 8.5 several years ago at PSA, this shocker exhibits a miniscule touch at two corners and is a Pop 5, edged on the PSA Population Report by just ten MINT 9s. A little more than 300 (310) Mahovlich RCs have been submitted to the grading firm since its inception. Scratches to the front of the PSA holder are to note but in summary, you are going to be a proud new owner of a high grade, very important rookie card when this beauty arrives.
