Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
The first player in NHL history to score at least 20 goals in his first ten full seasons, Maurice Richard entered the 1952-53 NHL campaign on the heels of Nels Stewart’s all-time NHL goal record. After surpassing Old Poison to become the game’s greatest goal scorer, the Rocket would lead the NHL in scoring in 1953-54 and 1954-55 – a season that witnessed his 400th career goal. Produced for the superstar shortly before his brother Henri joined the Canadiens in 1955-56, we offer a signed stick issued to the Habs all-time greatest. A CCM Pattern Made Extra Special model by Ernie Evernden, “Richard” is stamped near the knob with his iconic “9” placed just below, with a stamp from the Canadiens’ supplier Raymond Hardware on one side of the shaft. Richard added a later black marker signature and personalization to one side of the shaft. There is some age and storage wear to the stick including at the underside of the blade, with some cracking at the heel. Despite this, the stick remains completely solid. There are also small dabs of paint visible, and pencil marks over the toe section of the blade, along with a faint pencil signature near the heel.
