Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/21/2022
Captivating for sure are uncut hockey card sheets, with so many memorable cards featured among the 396 comprising these three sheets from 1980-81, in difficult-to-hope-for-too-much-nicer condition and displaying marvelously in big frames. Mark Messier’s key rookie card highlights one and is located in the eighth (horizontal) row, with John Ogrodnick’s RC just below and that of Richard Sevigny beside the latter. Rod Langway, Pete Peeters and a few other secondary RCs are also featured, while Ray Bourque’s rookie and Wayne Gretzky’s second-year OPC card appear on the lower part of another. Gretz (bottom row) and Bourque (second row from the bottom) are fun to zero-in on, as are Mike Gartner and Michel Goulet RCs closer to the top. A third sheet may be most appealing to some, with five Gretzky “specials”, other All-Star, Team Leader and Record Breaker cards and rookie cards of Mike Liut, Rick Vaive, Jim Craig and still more also involved. The latter sheet is where a more obvious 6-inch crease runs horizontally through two (common) cards at the far left of the fifth row from the bottom, while one has to look closely on the other two sheets to find a small area of light creasing. All key cards are crease-free and the backs of the sheets can be viewed as there is glass both front and back - ingenious. The frames are thus heavy, heavy affairs and will only be included if the pieces can be picked up at our headquarters. Otherwise, the sheets will be removed before being shipped.
