Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/1/2022
Worn on March 31st, 2013 during the warm-up against the Chicago Blackhawks as an homage to the great “Mr. Hockey” who was present at “The Joe” that night to celebrate his 85th birthday, this Detroit Red Wings jersey was worn by another Detroit hockey legend, Pavel Datsyuk. The stand out bright red of this Red Wings sweater presents beautifully having no obvious wear present on it as it was only worn during the warm-up before the game. Datsyuk’s usual number 13 has been replaced by Howe’s iconic number 9 to match with the rest of the Red Wings that night to pay tribute to the Detroit legend. A Reebok model, size 56 flag tag is sewn to the inside neck with the NHL shield and Reebok crests sewn on the front and back necklines respectively. Sewn on the left chest is a patch commemorating the jersey as being from Gordie Howe’s birthday to go along with Datsyuk’s familiar number 13 sewn on the right chest in small sleeve-style numbers. Sewn onto the inside of the jersey is the team tagging from the Red Wings and equipment manager, Paul Boyer. The reverse 9 is signed by Mr. Hockey himself, accompanying the signature of Datsyuk with the inscription “To Felix” placed at the base (there is bleeding to the signatures).
