First wearing his iconic and instantly recognizable Daoust skates with blue Perfecta blade holders in games during the 1980-81 NHL season, Wayne Gretzky wore these utterly rare and desirable Daoust skates with blue Perfecta blade holders in some capacity with the Edmonton Oilers in the early-1980s during a period of time from 1981-82 to 1984-85. Wayne’s preferred Daoust 301 model with intact lacing and trademark blue Perfecta blade holder, the skates show just light use (around 1 to 2 months approximately as stated in the included LOA) with some small scratches and scuffs over the boots and blade holders as well as to the toe caps. Displaying Gretzky's "99" over the outside of each boot, the skates are missing the insoles but retain the laces while the date stamp, normally seen inside the ankles on Wayne's Daoust skates, is no longer visible from repeated use with the tongues of both skates, shaved down on the sides for better comfort and likely done by Wayne himself, are pushed down and bent exactly as "The Great One" did to all his skates. As stated in the included LOA from noted Gretzky collector and former equipment man, Joe Esposito, the skates show mid-stream repair work done to them with some of the metal eyelets removed near the top of each boot to begin the repair process. Additionally, the achilles portion of both skates were separated with the intention to add padding to the heel section to reduce friction as Wayne would commonly suffer blisters on his heels. However, new skates for Wayne from Daoust arrived before the repairs were completed and the work that was to be done on these ceased in the process. Originally from the collection of Shawn Chaulk, who acquired them in 1999 had Wayne sign over the left skate in silver marker with the autograph displaying without issue, this fabulous pair of wheel once worn by the game's all-time greatest player will be accompanied by an LOA from Joe Esposito.
