Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

A battle between cross-town rivals, with the two clubs both finishing at the top of the standings, the 1927-28 NHL season featured 10 teams playing a 44-game schedule, with the Montreal Canadiens and Montreal Maroons finishing in first and second place overall respectively. The French and English-represented clubs would meet in the Stanley Cup semifinals, a two-game total-goal series, and we offer a Montreal Forum Maroons program for Game 2 on April 3, 1928, won by the Maroons 1-0. Extremely rare – hockey programs originating from the 1920s and earlier are seldom seen, especially specimens from important playoff matches. Listing the date and opponents on the cover along with the “ten cents” purchase price, the 47-page program is complete including the center line-up, and also includes images of Clint Benedict and George Hainsworth, as well as ads for Riley Hern’s sporting goods store in Montreal and Bancroft tubular skates featuring Howie Morenz. There is wear to the covers and spine, with the staples in place, with toning to the interior. There is also paper loss to the reverse cover from scrapbook removal. The Maroons would take the total-goal series 3-2, and would lose to the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup final.
