Well remembered as the first netminder to regularly don facial protection, Jacques Plante was instrumental in establishing head gear for goaltenders, perfecting models that would be used for years to come. This caramel colored “pretzel” mask, manufactured by Plante's Fibrosport company in Magog Quebec, was the first model made by the manufacturer. Sporting a rich dark gold colour with what appears to be the original period strapping, a large section of the front and reverse of the nose bridge is broken away, with each connecting section beneath also missing. The material to the left and right of each eye socket also shows evidence of the bars being shaved down and removed, with the rare mask showing heavy overall wear/use, with numerous surface scratches present along with numerous cracks and crazing, with some minor soiling to the strapping which includes rusting to the buckles.
