Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
One of the most famous and successful of all early hockey teams, and first competing at the 1884 Montreal Winter Carnival, the Ottawa Hockey Club was the first organized team in Ontario, and later served as a founding member of the National Hockey League. The club would utilize numerous nicknames throughout their existence, including the Generals in the 19th century, the Silver Seven from 1903 to approx 1907, and most famously, the Senators, beginning in 1908. This rare and highly desirable antique postcard features the 1905 Stanley Cup-champion Silver Seven. A colourized image – rare for the era, the Ottawa seven are pictured with the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, with text, handwriting, and a “Feb 06” postmark stamp over the right. The reverse has also been filled out, with a second postmark and intact stamp. Sporting a few small creases and minor corner wear, there is also toning to the reverse, with the postcard displaying beautifully overall.
