Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 2018, Willie O’Ree is recognized as the first black player to play in the NHL, seeing action in a pair of contests with the Boston Bruins in 1957-58. Offered here, is this Bruins home jersey signed by the pioneer with a desirable “1/18/58” inscription. A Fanatics sizing band with “XL” designations decorates the inner collar, with an NHL crest on the front neckline. Styled with the classic spoked “B” Bruins team crest with alternate logo patches residing over each shoulder, O’Ree’s “22” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual-layer tackle twill, with “O’Ree” across the affixed nameplate in matching style letters. O’Ree has signed the first back number “2” with a bold black ink signature along with his debut date inscription underneath. The autograph appears well with no flaws to note. A hologram has been affixed to the top of the number, along with a JSA sticker numbered “AC82517”, with both accompanied by matching COA’s.
