Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

A wonderful ensemble of Wayne Gretzky collectibles is up for grabs here and includes break-up value galore, with an instant collection also coming to mind for someone yet to dive into Wayne’s world. A big Sportscaster card was released after Gretzky’s initial pro season (in the WHA) and was produced in far lesser quantities than his official rookie card, with the example here exhibiting two side-to-side printing lines in the bottom half, along with an extremely subtle small bend. We’ll take care of the other non-conventional trading cards before getting to the O-Pee-Chee and Topps representatives, with a 50-card Neilson Gretzky set (EX-MT to NM examples dominate) accompanied by 13 duplicates and a terrific store display picturing all the cards – very cool. A 1986-87 Kraft Drawings card still in its original cellophane packaging, two “thick” loose ones on card stock, a creased ’83-84 Vachon card, two different Oilers team issues (one is joined by 20 other players), four ‘82-83 Red Rooster cards, an ’88-89 OPC box bottom (signed by Pat LaFontaine) and two ’80-81 OPC Super cards (approximately 5” x 7”) contribute, with one of the latter part of a 24-card (high grade) set. And now, on to the cards, led chronologically by an ’80-81 OPC second-year card (VG) and two similar #250 Topps examples (unscratched = VG-EX, scratched = G). Also from ’80-81 are seven each of OPC All-Star, League Leaders, 182-Oilers Team Leaders (four are unmarked) and 3-Record Breaker cards. Condition varies throughout the collection, with mid-grade cards and EX-MT and better entries accounting for the majority, but with lower grade cards also involved– expect a wide range, along with duplication – our images will give you an idea. Completing are over three dozen OPC and other stickers and a few miscellaneous cards. Hockey’s most prolific offensive superstar awaits your bid!
