Featuring both the “father of Medicare” and a “father of confederation”, this lot includes items signed by past Canadian provincial premieres totaling 9. To start, we have a Sir Oliver Mowat first day cover signed by Newfoundland confederation father and the first premiere, Joey Smallwood (1900-1991), with the pictorial envelope sporting a 1970 postmark, signed in blue ballpoint, with the envelope affixed to an 8” x 10” sheet. Next, we have a card (2 ½” x 3 ¼”) with typed name signed by the 17th premiere of Nova Scotia, Robert Stanfield (1914-2003), affixed to an 8” x 10” page with biographical text, a typed letter on “The Premiere Fredericton” letterhead dated “June 21, 1937”, signed by the 22nd premiere of New Brunswick, Allison Dysart (1880-1962), signed in dark ink, affixed to a biographical page (8” x 10”), an 8” x 10” magazine page with sticker affixed signed by Quebec premiere Rene Levesque (1922-1987), a typed letter on “Office of the Prime Minister & President of the Council” letterhead dated “June 23, 1937” signed by the 11th premiere of Ontario, Mitchell Hepburn (1896-1953), signed in dark ink (8” x 10”), and an index card signed by Tommy Douglas (1904-1986) in black marker, affixed to a reproduction photo page (8” x 10”). Rounding out the lot, we have a period 4” x 6” photo signed by the 7th premiere of Alberta, William Aberhart (1878-1943), affixed to a biographical page, a period 5” x 7” photo signed by the 25th premiere of BC, WAC Bennett (1900-1979) in blue ink, and an 8” x 10” magazine photo signed by Northwest Territories commissioner Stuart Milton Hodgson (1924-2015), signed in ballpoint, affixed to a biographical page.
