Opportunities to acquire complete C57 sets are few and far between, with serious hobbyists as well as more casual collectors sure to marvel at the ensemble offered here, the cards’ somewhat haunting and definitely riveting images fascinating indeed, especially to hockey historians. The Hall of Fame lineup is sensational – let’s get to it and the condition details. Exemplified by the fact that almost half of the 50-cards that make up the set have been inspected by PSA, a group of four recently encapsulated heavy hitters leads the way through the offerings of HOFers Georges Vezina (PR 1), Art Ross (GOOD 2 “MK”), Fred Taylor (GOOD 2) and Newsy Lalonde (GOOD 2). For the rest of the already assessed cards included with the set, VG-EX 4’s total five (5) and include the specimens of 5-Dunderdale (HOF), 13-Lindsay, 38-Marks (RC), 40-Boyce (RC) and 46-Laviolette (HOF) while the VG 3’s feature the cards of 10-Vair, 16-Hall (HOF) and 37-Prodgers (RC) while an additional VG 3 is present of 4-Atchingson (RC) that also shows an “MC” qualifier on its label. For the GOOD 2’s we have examples for 6-Bernier, 12-Smith, 18-Moran (HOF), 22-Smaill and 36-Fournier (RC) while both card #48 of Joe Malone (HOF) and #29 of Jack Darragh (HOF) have both earned marks of FR 1.5 though Darragh’s example comes with an “MK” qualifier on its label. Lastly, for the graded cards, the cardboard of HOFer Didier Pitre rounds out the group with a PR-FR 1. For the raw ungraded cards that make up the rest of the set, those picturing the likes of 8-Poulin, 11-Rowe, 25-Johnson (HOF), 26-Russell (HOF), 31-Lake, 34-Gerard (HOF) and 35-Kendall (RC) are seen as being in the grade range of VG-EX while the VG scope specimens include 3-Benedict (RC – HOF), 9-Payan, 14-Ronan, 19-Hyland (HOF) and 30-Shore. For cards seen as being in the range of GOOD, the largest of the raw offering groups, those falling into this category include #’s 2-Broadbent (RC – HOF), 7-Dellaire, 17-MacDonald, 23-Roberts, 27-Lesueur (HOF), 28-Ridpath, 33-Kerr, 41-Patrick (HOF), 47-Oatman and 50-O. Cleghorn. Rounding out the set, cards seen as FR include those of 15-S. Cleghorn (HOF), 21-Glass, 32-Currie, 42-Dennison (RC) and 49-Walsh (HOF) while lastly, we have PR vicinity specimens of cards #24 James Gardner (HOF) and #39 George Broughton (RC). The scarcities constitute a splendid array of pre-NHL stars and supporting cast members and will thrill you upon their delivery – each one being a treasure to behold and admire!
