Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

The rookie cards of some legendary performers who contributed to Stanley Cup triumphs in Edmonton and Detroit highlight this lot of 396-cards sets (housed in the same thick binder), with the (at the time) young Oilers leading a sharp 1981-82 O-Pee-Chee assembly. Paul Coffey, Jari Kurri, Andy Moog, Glenn Anderson and Kevin Lowe RCs are all NM or a tad higher, with a strong majority of the other key contributors similar – we barely spotted a touched corner among the star/rookie cards pulled from 9-pocket Ultra Pro Platinum pages, while a smaller percentage of the rest may be “only” EX-MT. A little blue ink transfer in the borders of the Kurri rookie is to note, as are unmarked checklists and Wayne Gretzky’s regular (#106) issue (NM). A curvature to the cards, more pronounced at the start of the binder is also noteworthy. A comparable condition report is true for an ’84-85 set, although Steve Yzerman’s RC is dropped to EX+ or EX-MT at best by a light upper right corner ding and similar nearby top edge, while spots of toning (right border) affect #243-Gretzky. It’s tougher to find fault with Doug Gilmour, Cam Neely and Chris Chelios rookies (all NM or slightly higher), with dozens of NM-MT to MINT entries likely to be discovered amid the remainder. Dandy rookie cards and card designs are what is in store for you upon the arrival of these.
