Registering 31 doubles – his most since 1924, Babe Ruth hit .373, with 46 home runs and 163 RBIs in 1931, and we offer a scorecard from that season signed by The Sultan of Swat that was issued for a series of exhibition matches taking place in March and April. Hailing from Waterfront Park in St Petersburg, the undated 7” x 11 ½” fold-over scorecard was produced for a match vs the Braves, with some of the numbers filled out for the Yankees players. Ruth signed along the top of the Yankees section in dark ink, with the signature placed over numbers, with the “B” and “A” of “BAbe” and the “R” of “Ruth” a bit light. A hand-drawn arrow pointing to the signature includes the text “Madelyn asked Ruth to autograph this, & he did it most “willingly?”, with additional handwritten text to include “Col Rupert owner of Yankees was present” and “Numbers on their backs” for the handwritten jersey numbers (the Yankees starting wearing numbers in 1929). The scorecard has been laminated fully open, with fold lines and creases visible. A JSA LOA will accompany.
