Completely dominant throughout the early-1950s before the club was broken-up by Jack Adams, the frustration that opposition and their supporters felt when meeting the Detroit Red Wings was emphasized during the 1956 Stanley Cup playoffs. The semifinals witnessed the red and white take the first two games against Toronto, and with the Leafs and their fans dismayed, one cheering hopeful took it upon himself to call radio stations and threaten to shoot Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay in Game 3 in Toronto. Undetered by the boast, Howe, Lindsay and the Red Wings defeated the Leafs, with Terrible Ted skating around the ice after scoring the winning goal and using his stick as a mock machine gun… blasted the crowd as he paraded around the ice. Originating from his personal collection, we have an Austin “Sharpshooter” figurine produced in 2002 that depicts Ted and his semi-automatic stick during that eventful game in 1956. At 12” in height and depicted with his stick as a weapon, “Sharpshooter” and “1956” appear on the circular 5 ½” base with felt underside, along with “Ted Lindsay” and a facsimile signature. The original Austin tag is still affixed, with just light wear present. An LOA from the Lindsay family will accompany.
