Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

The late, great Ted Lindsay’s personal collection of cards and collectibles is offered by the Lindsay family here, with over four dozen hand-signed by the Hall of Famer in the years prior to his death in 2019 carrying much of the allure. Not many players had as much fierce competitive spirit as “Terrible Ted, ” his passion and love of hockey often shining through for decades after his playing days were over. Mr. Lindsay, rightfully so, was featured in numerous modern legends, all-time greats, Original Six, Parkhurst and other sets during the last 30-plus years, with duplication among the beautifully-signed examples and the Red Wings’/hockey legend often adding “H.H.O.F. 66” after his signature. One of the highlights of the signed examples is a 2006-07 The Cup card (#31), serial-numbered “216/249.” There is some heavy duplication among well over 800 additional (not-signed) cards, while some serial-numbered cards and inserts also are present. Lindsay is joined by Brett Hull on a double-jersey card from Parkhurst’s 2003-04 Original Six issue, with some five dozen cards having to do with the Ted Lindsay Award (most outstanding player as voted by members of the NHLPA). They’re thought to have been produced and designed to be handed out at the awards’ presentation. Alex Ovechkin “winner” cards (6) and Sidney Crosby “finalist” cards from 2009-10 are notable, with Crosby (winner) and finalists Claude Giroux and Ryan Getzlaf each featured on a dozen each from 2013-14. Other pieces completing the collection are 30-plus Hall of Fame postcards featuring the artwork of Doug West, BEEHIVE Golden Originals (8) from the late-‘90s, a C55 reprint set and album (Ted’s dad Bert Lindsay appears on the card that’s showing!) in its original packaging and finally, a framed piece with a (modern) Red Wings pennant and images of five of Ted’s vintage hockey cards. Possibilities, options and decisions galore await the astute high bidder here, with a Letter of Authenticity from the Lindsay family to be included.
