Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Clashing with Bill Ezinicki throughout their respective careers, with the two first rival opponents in junior, Ted Lindsay famously came to blows with the Bruins’ winger in 1951, resulting in Ezinicki left unconscious on the ice, needing 19 stitches in his face while also suffering a lost tooth and broken nose. The incident is featured in this lot that contains original art of Ted Lindsay totaling 3 pieces that originates from his personal collection, including two cartoon collages presumably used for publication, with an example by Frank Williams. First, the Williams work is 13” x 14” and on tanned stock with ink, charcoal and water colour apparently used, with a few scenes depicted, with the artist signing over the bottom left. The second work depicting the Ezinicki incident is black ink at approx 13” x 15”, matted to just over 17” x 18 ½”, with a few wrinkles and creases visible. The final modern painting is water colour and pencil at 14 ½” x 20”, with Lindsay expertly depicted in his Red Wings captain’s sweater, with the artist signing over the bottom right. An LOA from the Lindsay family will accompany these unique works.
