Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Last seeing high-level hockey with the Cleveland Barons in the late-1970s, the state of Ohio was blessed with the granting of an NHL expansion team in 1997, with the Columbus Blue Jackets icing their first team for the 2000-01 season. Originating from that memorable inaugural season where Columbus played their first home game on Oct 7, 2000 vs Chicago, we have a jersey worn during the season by rookie Mathieu Darche, with the Quebec native seeing action in 9 regular-season games beginning in February and ending in April. A size “56” label is affixed to the collar, with KOHO and NHL crests over the reverse neckline and bottom hem. Styled with the Blue Jackets team crest utilized from the first season until 2006-07, “19” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with the “Inaugural Season” crest residing over the right breast. While the accompanying LOA from the Blue Jackets states game-worn, we should note that the jersey does not show any obvious game-wear and may have been worn for a very short time.
