The OHL Goaltender of the Year for consecutive seasons in 2007-08 and 2008-09, Mike Murphy was drafted by Carolina in 2008 and spent the 2009-10 season in the AHL with affiliate club the Albany River Rats. Murphy would remain with the club when they relocated to Charlotte to become the Checkers for the 2010-11 AHL season. First worn by Murphy with Albany in 2009-10, and was later worn during his first season with Charlotte in 2010-11 – this mask is photo-matched to his season with Charlotte. A Sportmask model with company decal added to the interior, the paint scheme is by Steve Nash of Eyecandyair with signature and “Nov 20, 2009” date added to the interior, and features a white and silver paint scheme with black accents, with “Murph” in stylized letters over the chin section along with Carolina Hurricanes logos at each side. The backplate has “Murphy”, with a bull motif and a few emblems. Great game-use is exhibited, with a number of small chips, scratches, marks and abrasions to the surface, with small areas of red paint transfer also visible. Getty Image #107203704 (Nov 27, 2010 with Charlotte Checkers) has been matched to a few distinct marks including the red paint transfer mark on the left upper side and the chipping pattern beneath the left side of the "R" of "MURPH" over the chin section.
