Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Wayne Gretzky was still a teenager and early in his professional career after being acquired by the Edmonton Oilers of the World Hockey Association (from the Indianapolis Racers) when a photographer clicked the image that graces his desirable O-Pee-Chee rookie card, with this example freshly graded 5 EX by KSA. Centering is obviously off, with a small ding and a white speck visible at the bottom right corner. There's also a reddish print dot to note, just to the right of the (standard) yellow dot on Wayne's left shoulder. This example has two thin parallel blue lines on the back, (notably at the bottom of the cartoon), which some contend points to a first print run of the '79-80 OPC issue, while others are not in accord. Check it all out and let us know if this is the Gretz RC for you. The card is housed in a scratch-free KSA holder.
