Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Leading the Montreal Canadiens to consecutive 100-point seasons in 1988 and 1989 during his captaincy, Bob Gainey was a six-time Stanley Cup champion with the Habs, with four Frank J Selke Trophies earned along with the Conn Smythe, in 1979. Originating from his jersey retirement night on Feb 23, 2008, where his #23 was raised to the rafters, never to be worn again, we have a souvenir Canadiens captain's jersey signed on the occasion for Habs centerman Steve Begin. A CCM model with “XL” sizing affixed to the collar, point-of-sale tags are still affixed to the left sleeve. Styled with the classic Habs team crest with Gainey’s “23” over the sleeves and verso in tackle twill, the “23” retirement patch is sewn to the right breast. Just a souvenir model signed for Begin, Gainey has placed a blue marker signature to the reverse “2”, with considerable bleeding occurring to the signature. An LOA signed by Steve Begin will accompany.
