Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Similar to the personal miniature Stanley Cup trophies awarded to victorious hockey players and executives, this silver color Grey Cup replica commemorates the exploits of the 1999 Hamilton Tiger-Cats, led by the likes of Danny McManus and Darren Flutie. At 12 ½” in height, "Presented by His Excellency Earl Grey for the Amateur Rugby Football Championship of Canada" is engraved on the bowl in a combination of block and scripted letters, with "Hamilton Tiger-Cats 1999 Grey Cup Champions" also appearing over the middle section. Additional engraved text has been added along the base, stating “Presented with appreciation to Ramada". Manufactured by the company that produces championship rings for the Canadian Football League, this desirable example is ready for prominent placement.
Exhibiting surface wear and spotting including over the handles and within the bowl, the trophy also sports a few scratches and blemishes, with no large dent or dings visible. Grey Cup MVP McManus threw for 347 yards in the contest and connected with Flutie for two TD passes, with the Ti-Cats beating Calgary 32-21 in Vancouver, at BC Place, in front of over 45,00 fans.
