Founded in 1929 as the Grosvenor House Canadians, the Wembley Monarchs played in the English League during the early-1930s, and later in the English National League before folding in 1950. The club’s greatest success came in 1948 when they won the English Autumn Cup title. This oversized presentation display has been team-signed by the 1946-47 Monarchs, and was produced in appreciation for team manager Major E. Scott Williams. At just over 15” x 18”, the thick cardboard display features a mounted 5” x 11” team photo with maple leaf backdrop, with 14 signing within a box over the bottom right. Signers include “Kid Line” star Les Anning, longtime Brighton Tiger Gib Hutchinson, Sonny Rost – who spent 18 seasons with Wembley, EHL star George Steele, Jimmy Rang, Frankie Green, Doug Steward, Sonny Rost, Jimmie Wood, Glenn Allan, Lou Bates and a few others. Some of the signatures are light, with heavy wear to the display itself including creasing and toning, with a few small areas of discolouration. There is also a large pencil notation on the reverse.
