Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Sharing the bench for the only time in their iconic careers, Bobby Orr would enlist Wayne Gretzky to play in a charity game for past Ottawa Generals teammate Billy Heindl, with the game taking place at Winnipeg Arena, on April 25, 1980. This oversized framed photo from the event has been signed by the legendary duo. At 16” x 20”, the modern black and white print picture’s the pair on the bench surveying the action, with each signing over his image in matching blue marker. An inserted plaque beneath includes an erroneous date, with “Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr, arguably the two Greatest to ever play the Game, watch the action from the bench in this rare 1978 photo.” (as noted, the meeting of these greats occurred in 1980, not 1978). Triple-matted and framed to approx 28 ½” x 30 ½”, the limited-edition number of “183/299” appears over the bottom left next to a hologram from WGA, with a matching COA to accompany.
