Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
One of the first players in history to be crowned an Allan Cup champion, Stanley Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist, Haldor “Slim” Halderson earned immortality as a member of the legendary Winnipeg Falcons, inaugural Olympic hockey winners in 1920. The later AHA star joined the PCHA during the early-1920s, and with former Falcons teammate and fellow Winnipegger Frank Fredrickson, helped lead the Victoria Cougars to the 1925 Stanley Cup. This lot includes Halderson’s signed passport from the 1920 Games in Antwerp, a trio of signed AHA Kansas City Pla-Mors contracts from the 1931-32 and 1932-33 seasons, and a pair of period scrapbooks. First, the passport is 4 ¼” x 6 ¾”, with a fold-out interior that includes Halderson’s photo and signature (moderate wear present). The contracts all show heavier wear with staining, creasing and edge tears, with each signed by Halderson along with Pla-Mors team president Bill Grant. The scrapbooks include one that houses period newspaper clippings from Halderson’s career, while the second includes three Pla-Mors team photos – including one in plain clothes (one is taped to the inside front cover of the scrapbook), a Wendt Café ad card with 1930-31 Pla-Mors team image and facsimile signatures (5 ½” x 7”), and 13 caricature images of Pla-Mors players most likely used in publication – with these appearing to be period copies from the 1930s. The photos and caricatures all show heavy wear, with just light wear to the Wendt Café ad card.
