Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

A groovy array of colors, nice smooth edges and first-rate surfaces are attributes here, with Topps’ 1971-72 card set again a 132-card affair and this gathering exhibiting minimal handling and wear. EX-MT, EX-MT+ and NM examples come around the most often, with NM-MT-or-better entries also present, along with cards that are “only” EX or EX+. The key Ken Dryden rookie card is NM in our book, with not-perfect top-to-bottom centering to note and the Gordie Howe and Bobby Clarke cards similar. Some corner touches send Bobby Orr to EX-MT, the same as Bobby Hull, with the only crease in the whole ensemble being a small back crease that helps to render the unmarked checklist VG+. The first six numbered cards are a neat and different twist (than the O-Pee-Chee set that year), hailing the top scorers and goalies from ’70-71. It’s curious how #3-NHL Scoring Leaders has indentations from an elastic band – it must have been on top of the pile at some point. Bobby and Bobby and Gordie and Ken and the Espo brothers and others – they’re a treat to check out in this condition.
