Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

Another one of consignor’s ingenious displays from a “hat trick” of Shirriff coin sets, this attention-grabber fittingly features the Maple Leafs at the top as Toronto was on top of the hockey world at the time and in the midst of stringing together an impressive run of three Stanley Cup championships. The metal coins display well, with not many exhibiting unsightly rim wear; 54-Gordie Howe All-Star and two Canadiens commons stand out as inferior to the vast majority, but most onlookers won’t be inspecting things like we do. The coins are sunken into circular die-cut spaces, with double-matting in the shape of the NHL shield a nifty attribute. A metal frame measuring 22” by 24” and a few light scratches/scuffs to the Plexiglas are noteworthy, as is the dislodged Jacque Plante All-Star example, with the chance of others doing the same in shipping also to consider. Four different of Plante, three of Keon and two each of Hull, Mahovlich and Harvey highlight the splendid lineup.
