Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Peter Mahovlich was actually making his return to professional hockey in Pittsburgh when he was traded to the Penguins by the Montreal Canadiens in 1977. The Little M first made his mark in the Steel City a decade earlier when he played for the Pittsburgh Hornets of the AHL in their 1966-67 Calder Cup championship season. Pete, who appeared in 34 games with the Detroit Red Wings that season, had 11 points in 18 regular season games with the Hornets. He played each of nine playoff games for Pittsburgh, which won its third Calder Cup title before closing operations because of the arrival of the city’s NHL expansion team for the 1967-68 season. Mahovlich’s 1966-67 AHL Pittsburgh Hornets cufflinks and tie-clip set from his personal collection are a remarkable memento from his only season with the team. Peter Mahovlich’s signed LOA accompanies this lot which also includes a circa 1989 Adirondack Red Wings pin, a 1989 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees pin, a Chicago Wolves 2002 Calder Cup championship replica/fan ring and a crossed hockey sticks pin.
