Deserving of and sure to garner considerable interest among those of you who appreciate and seek crisp, clean cardboard is this impressive gathering of ever-popular 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee cards. Sharp corners and gorgeous surfaces are a treat, with NM-or-better examples accounting for a strong majority and dozens of dozens of cards in the NM-MT, NM-MT+ and MINT realm to discover. Refreshingly, we do not have to say that the key rookie card is a condition exception since Ken Dryden’s coveted RC is well-centered and may well attain NM-MT. A tiny, tiny edge nick and an extremely lightly touched corner (only detectable on the back and under magnification) may lower it to NM+, but boy, a submission candidate for certain. With four sharp corners is the Guy Lafleur RC, although how pro graders will assess a more evident (left) edge nick and a light (right) edge ding is uncertain – we’ll refrain from assigning a grade. A NM+ Marcel Dionne rookie, a NM 100-Bobby Orr card and two crease-free, unmarked checklists also are important elements, with famous checklist #111 EX-MT+ in our book and #264-2nd Series at NM. Two Bobby Orr “specials”, special cards of Gordie Howe and Jean Beliveau, second-year cards of Perreault, Clarke and Sittler, rookie cards of Leach, Martin, MacLeish, Goring and others, All-Star and Trophy Winner cards – you are going to absolutely love checking them all out and then making some decisions. The cards not making it to NM are so rendered more by edge dings and not corner dings, although touched/lightly dinged corners are present but not plentiful. We spotted but six creased cards; 1-Popiel, 40-Park and four commons. Good luck with this rather infrequent and tempting opportunity.
