Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/1/2022
A memorable season in the long and hallowed history of the Detroit Red Wings, the 1949-50 campaign witnessed the Motor City squad capture first place in the NHL and win the Stanley Cup in an exciting Game 7 overtime victory, with the Production Line of Ted Lindsay, Sid Abel and Gordie Howe all leading the league in scoring 1-2-3. Ted Lindsay would also earn the Art Ross Trophy in 1949-50, and we offer the original tray presented to the iconic superstar that originates from his personal collection. Large at approx 16” x 24” including the handles, the attractive silver plate on copper specimen features detailed engraved floral patterns and scroll work, with the engraved text over the center stating “Souvenir of the Art Ross Trophy – Presented to the National Hockey League 1949 – For the player who scores the most points in the regular schedule of championship games – Won by Robert B.T. “Ted” Lindsay” – Detroit Hockey Club Inc – Season 1949-50”. The reverse is stamped "S.P. Copper" (silver plated on copper) and "Sheffield Reproduction" (name of pattern), along with a couple hallmarks. The tray remains in stunning high-grade condition, exhibiting just some minor oxidation to the reverse and along edges, with the front almost entirely clean, with no issues for the engraved text. An LOA from the Lindsay family will accompany.
