We never tire of examining and describing 1964-65 Topps cards, with always numerous aspects of interest, so let’s get at it. Four notable contributors are encapsulated, with Jean Beliveau’s (SP) card meriting NM 7 recognition from PSA and Tim Horton’s tough All-Star SP coming in at EX 5. Unmarked checklists carry weight and appeal; 54-1st Series is slabbed EX-MT 6, while 55-2nd Series (SP) received an EX 5 assessment. One other short print, 98-Hicke, is in a holder labeled VG-EX 4. As for the raw rest, we’re surmising that you’ll be pleased about minimal creases and a strong majority of EX-or-better contributors, with EX+, EX-MT and EX-MT+ cards a treat to peruse, with intermittent NMs to also zero-in on. If Gordie Howe’s key card is not NM, (it mirrors the slabbed Beliveau), it is extremely close, with 2nd Series SPs led by Rangers Villemure (EX+) and Paille RC (EX-MT) and Bruins Williams (EX) and Dornhoefer RC (EX+). A tiny corner crease or a little something sends SPs Pilote, Maki, Rousseau and Mikita All-Star to VG+, with creasing rendering Nesterenko VG. It’s EX for Bobby Hull’s #20 1st Series SP, while an aforementioned tiny corner crease helps to render Bobby’s All-Star VG+. We count but a dozen other creased examples or obvious condition exceptions, including 31-Mikita (VG), 110-Hall All-Star (VG) and two with back damage; 7-Hay and 28-Wharram. Other (nicer) notables include 1-Martin RC (EX), 68-Plante (EX+), 85-Mahovlich (EX-MT) and 102-Horton (EX+), with a VG+ 95-Delvecchio autographed in blue ballpoint. All-in-all, an alluring assembly – Tall Boys are always captivating.
