Money makes the world go around and it certainly is the focus of this distinctive lot of various items of legal tender from Peter Mahovlich’s personal collection. Featured is Pete’s 1972 Canada-Russia series commemorative Canadian dollar presentational frame. Struck by the Canadian Mint to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Summit Series in 1997, the silver dollar depicts the celebration following Paul Henderson’s series-winning goal in Game 8 in Moscow. The coin itself is displayed in an inset box in the lower right of the 16” x 20” frame that displays a thick paper pressing of the front of the coin, which measures 8” in diameter and roughly 8 ½” square as displayed recessed in the top of the matte. The bottom of the frame has a Bell sponsor’s plaque that reads, “In recognition of outstanding contribution to Canadian sports history, Summit Celebration Golf Classic, Devil’s Pulpit, September 30th, 1997”. Two 1997 Canada proof dollars comes in their respective RCM cases along with the “34 Seconds to Eternity” printed cardboard sleeve, one of which has some tape remnants. Also featured is a 1998 proof set from the Royal Canadian Mint to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in its original RCM packaging. The set features the silver dollar RCMP 1873-1998 along with 1998 Canadian $2, $1, 50-cent, quarter, dime, nickel and penny coins encased in a plastic display that allows viewing of both sides of each coin. Also included in this lot are a Republic National Bank of New York, one ounce troy fine silver ingot, a framed Jack Nicklaus Bank of Scotland 5 pound banknote, an Eisenhower 1978 U.S. silver dollar encased in Lucite and displayed in the middle of a Rotary Club of Denver logo, a 1943 U.S. steel penny and a 1984 Mexico one peso coin.
