Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
A Montreal Canadiens draft choice in 1980, John Chabot spent parts of two seasons with the Habs before additional time with Pittsburgh and Detroit. The Summerside native also lent his coaching skills to the game after retiring, and led the Gatineau Olympiques to two appearances at the Memorial Cup. From his first of four seasons in Detroit, we have a Red Wings jersey that according to our consignor, was purchased from Merv Denny shortly after use, with Denny stating that the jersey was only worn by Chabot during the 1988 Stanley Cup playoffs, where he appeared in all sixteen Red Wings games. A Maska label is affixed to the collar, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 50. Styled with the classic winged-wheel team crest with embroidered detailing, “16” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill, with “Chabot” arching across the upper reverse in matching material. “Eastside” is also heat-pressed over the reverse hem. Exhibiting nice game-use with puck and stick marks over the front and sleeves, there is also some blue paint transfer on the front right shoulder and upper left sleeve, with a few small slits just above the right sleeve’s number.
