Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
The singing of O’Canada from coast to coast occurred directly after the conclusion of the Summit Series in 1972, with our entire nation completely enthralled by the victorious battle for world hockey supremacy. Hailing from the collection of Team Canada 1972’s Peter Mahovlich, who played in seven of the eight Canada-U.S.S.R. games, we have his personal team-signed copy of the Daniel Parry lithograph entitled, “O’Canada”. At approx 24” x 25” (exposed), Team Canada is wonderfully depicted lined-up during the anthem prior to Game 8 in Moscow, with each signing below in pencil including Pete and his HOF brother Frank, series hero Paul Henderson, deceased HOFers Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito and Rod Gilbert, HOFers Phil Esposito, Ken Dryden, Brad Park, Serge Savard, Guy Lapointe, Yvan Cournoyer, Bobby Clarke, Gilbert Perreault and Marcel Dionne, deceased team members Gary Bergman, J.P. Parise, Bill Goldsworthy, Rick Martin, Pat Stapleton, Bill White, Brian Glennie and assistant coach John Ferguson, plus head coach and HOFer Harry Sinden as well as Ed Johnston, Ron Ellis, Dennis Hull, Vic Hadfield, Wayne Cashman, Rod Seiling, Mickey Redmond, Don Awrey, Dale Tallon and Jocelyn Guevremont. Numbered “20/40 P.E.” (player’s edition) and double-matted and framed to full dimensions of roughly 35 ½” x 36”, the litho has moved within the frame obscuring a few signatures at the bottom and is no longer holding in place and the image’s colors have faded substantially from their original presentation, though the pencil signatures are not diminished. Comes with Peter Mahovlich’s signed LOA, plus an additional Parry COA.
