Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
A hobby icon is offered here, with Wayne Gretzky's coveted 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee rookie card freshly graded at KSA where it received a mark of 6 ENM. With an image right of center and dings at the four corners, card #18 also has a reddish print dot just to the right of the yellow dot on Wayne's left shoulder. After signing on the dotted line with the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA, Gretzky soon ended up in Edmonton and then the NHL, where he set about demolishing the league's record book. This example has two thin parallel blue lines on the back, (at the bottom of the cartoon), which some contend points to a first print run of the '79-80 OPC issue, while others dispel that belief. One is for sure, Gretzky made believers out of those who doubted him. A KSA holder without scratches is also to mention.
