Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Splitting the 2013-14 NHL season between Florida and Dallas, Tim Thomas signed with Florida after sitting out the 2012-13 season and backstopped the Panthers in 40 regular-season games before being acquired by the Stars in March of 2014. Thomas would don the #34 with the Panthers in honour of John Vanbiesbrouck. From that short partial season, we have a glove and goal pads worn by Thomas that have been photo-matched, accompanied by game-issued skates. Matching CCM Extreme Flex Pro models in Panthers colours, “Thomas” is embroidered to each, with light to moderate game-use shown, with puck marks to the pocket of the glove and additional marks covering the front of the pads (the pads also sport a handwritten date of “11-20” – but the Panthers never played on that day). The skates are Graf models with Reebok blade holders, with no game-use shown and tape residue to the blades. Inventory labels presumably from the Bruins that list Thomas along with the particulars have been affixed to the pads and glove, with the glove also initialed twice including by Kay Whitmore in his capacity as goaltending supervisor of the NHL. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Tim Thomas will accompany.
Getty Image #468471969 (Feb 1, 2014) has been matched to a few marks visible over the base of the pocket and wrist guard of the glove including the long streak above the "CCM" logo. The image is also matched to the right goal pad, with numerous marks matching, while Getty Image #464127387 (Dec 30, 2013) has been matched to numerous marks visible on the left and right pad. The threading at the top of each pad is white in the images but currently black, so the pads were resewn at some point along the top sections.
