Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
After sitting out the 2012-13 NHL season, Tim Thomas signed a one-year contract with Florida in September of 2013, and saw action in 40 regular-season games before being acquired by Dallas in March of 2014 (in exchange for Dan Ellis). From the 2013-14 NHL season – one that witnessed Thomas play in his final 8 regular-season games, we have a blocker, glove and pads, with the blocker photo-matched to his final NHL regular-season game (April 13, 2014), and the pads and blocker photo-matched to his final NHL playoff game (April 25, 2014 vs Anaheim). Reebok models in Stars colours, the equipment was produced for Dan Ellis with his name embroidered to each item, with this blacked-out for Thomas’ use. All four pieces show great game-use with dark marks covering the surfaces. Inventory labels presumably from the Bruins that list Thomas along with the particulars have been affixed to the blocker and glove (removable), with each item initialed by Kay Whitmore in his capacity as goaltending supervisor of the NHL. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Tim Thomas will accompany.
Regarding the photo-matches, Getty Images #485990833 and #484968229 (April 13, 2014 - FINAL REGULAR-SEASON GAME) have both been matched to a number of dark marks on the thumb-side padding of the blocker. Additionally, a photo from an April 25, 2014 San Diego Union-Tribune article (FINAL NHL PLAYOFF GAME - https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-getzlaf-leads-ducks-past-stars-6-2-in-game-5-2014apr25-story.html) has been matched to the large black streak over the thumb-side edge of the blocker, and to the long and distinct stick mark on the strapping cover padding on the right goal pad.
