The official mascot of Universal Studios, Woody Woodpecker was created in 1940 by Walter Lantz and storyboard artist Ben "Bugs" Hardaway, with cartoons first broadcast in 1957 under the title of The Woody Woodpecker Show. This lot offers a pair of framed Walter Lantz displays featuring Woody playing golf, with a Serigraph Cel produced in 1991 limited to 5,000 copies, and a hand-painted animation cel produced in 1995 and limited to 2,500 editions. First, the Serigraph Cel is entitled “Hole in One!” and is approx 10” x 12”” (exposed) and pictures Woody on the links being troubled by a mischievous squirrel. A Walter Lantz seal appears over the bottom left along with a COA affixed to the reverse, double-matted and framed to 15 ½” x 17 ½”. The hand-painted animation cel is approx 8 ½” x 10 ½” (exposed), with Woody in full swing, with a Walter Lantz-MCA/Universal seal over the bottom right. Double-matted and framed to 14 ½” x 16 ½”, there is just wear to each frame to note.
