Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Historic as the third NHL club in history to lift the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup in consecutive seasons, the Detroit Red Wings first Stanley Cup championship occurred in 1936 after losing just a single contest in the finals vs Toronto. The club repeated in 1937 – again while losing just a single match in the finals to New York. This Stanley Cup trophy was originally obtained from the family of Red Wings star Pete Kelly, and was produced sometime in the circa 1980s to commemorate the back-to-back championships. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with green felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in two rows, with “National Hockey League", "Stanley Cup Winner”, “1935-36 1936-37” and “Detroit Red Wings” engraved above. There is also a number engraved along the base of “10 3695 151”. Minor surface wear is present in areas, with just a single small dent visible – with this possibly a production flaw, with some additional wear including small surface chips to the wooden base.
