Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Drafted by Edmonton and making his NHL debut for the club in 1993-94, Kirk Maltby spent parts of three seasons with the Oilers before playing in over 900 games for the Detroit Red Wings which included being crowned a Stanley Cup champion four times. This Red Wings jersey was worn by Maltby in 2006-07, and features the desirable Steve Yzerman Retirement Night patch from Jan 2, 2007. A label with “54” sizing is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Reebok crests over the front and reverse necklines respectively. Styled with the classic winged-wheel team crest with embroidered detailing, “18” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single white twill, with “Maltby” in individual letters affixed directly to the upper reverse. The Yzerman patch resides on the right breast. The jersey also sports custom-shortened sleeves and a turned-in hem. Showing moderate game-use, 14 team repairs are present, with the majority situated over the shoulders. Getty Image #72871294 (Dec 22, 2006) appears to show the team repair on the front left shoulder, with the wear to the jersey where the team repairs are situated on the right shoulder also visible, but the image is not clear enough to call a definitive photo-match. The team patch denoting the garment as a “1st Set” example is sewn to the inside hem.
