Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

From a season that saw a rather dramatic and notable change in O-Pee-Chee's hockey card effort comes this alluring 1985-86 wax pack that cost 35 cents back in the day. That was the same as the previous season but only seven cards and an All-Star or team logo sticker insert were in packs, down from 14 cards and an insert in '84-85 - some collectors must have been a little upset(!). And, after more than a decade of featuring close to 400 cards, OPC's set was now complete at 264. Refreshing though was the presence of the NHL's newest megastar-to-be, Mario Lemieux, who had pulverized junior scoring records and who had impressed with an even 100 points in his first NHL (Calder Trophy-winning) season. "NM-MT" and the number "8" appear on the label of the GAI holder here, with various Wayne Gretzky cards and Al MacInnis' RC among the other notables in the '85-86 ensemble. Some light surface scratches are observed in the front of the (crack-free) GAI holder. The thought of a high grade Mario Lemieux RC possibly being inside this pack may well grip you as you grip the encased tempter.
