Featuring a number of stars that would later factor largely in the success of the Philadelphia Flyers during the mid-1970s including Dave Schultz, Jimmy Watson and Orest Kindrachuk, the Richmond Robins began life as the relocated Quebec Aces in 1971-72 and served as the chief farm club for the Flyers throughout their five seasons in the AHL. Only the third Robins jersey we have ever handled and the first to originate from the club’s inaugural season, this example was worn by the Flyers’ 1970 NHL Amateur Draft selection Hank Nowak in 1971-72. With no labeling remaining in the collar, a worn General Athletic label resides on the inside seam (the vintage durene garment measures-out to roughly a size 50). “Robins” is sewn to the chest in single orange twill, with “18” over the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill. The outline of “Nowak” can also been seen, previously sewn to the upper reverse in individual letters. Exhibiting nice wear with fading to the black material and fraying to the upper section of the twill “R” of the team crest, there is also some minor staining to the lower front, with a portion of each cuff unraveled. Some repair stitching has also been added where the letters were removed on the upper reverse. An LOA will accompany.
