Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Describing the tremendous blows received at the hands of superstar tough guy Joey Kocur, Donald Brashear related in an interview that despite Kocur cracking just his helmet with punches in a fight, he still felt serious pain in his gums and on the opposite side of his face, leaving him unable to eat for a day or so. This New York Rangers jersey was worn by Kocur during the 1994-95 NHL season, and it has been video-matched to the Jan 21, 1995 fight vs Brashear. A partially-detached Gerry Cosby label is affixed to the collar along with CCM and “54” size tags, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests over the reverse hem. Styled with “Rangers” placed diagonally across the chest in drop-shadow layered tackle twill, “26” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with “Kocur” arching over the upper reverse. Sporting heavy game-use with stick marks over the lower front and numerous team repairs, with examples situated on the shoulders (5) and sleeves (13), there is also a bit of blue paint transfer on the lower reverse. Originating from Joey Kocur’s personal collection, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
The video from the January 21, 1995 fight vs Donald Brashear (Montreal Canadiens) clearly shows at the conclusion that the white/red/white stripes on the left shoulder have let go, with the white/red/white stripe on the back of the left shoulder showing a portion of it which has let go and has been repaired.
