First donning the patriotic stars and stripes as a World Junior in 1982, Chris Chelios represented Uncle Sam at each and every level throughout his remarkable and lengthy Hall of Fame career which included winning gold at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. From the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City – the third time the star blueliner competed at the highest international level – we have gloves worn at the tournament by Chelios that have been photo-matched to the quarterfinals, semifinals and gold medal game (Chelios scored a goal in the quarterfinal). Easton models with Ergo thumbs in American red, white and blue, “Chelios” is screened to each wrist guard, with the gloves showing moderate game-use, sporting a few dark marks as well as wear to the material including to the palms. Each glove has been signed over the white wrist padding in black marker, with the signatures slightly faded and blending into the Easton logos somewhat. Worn for the most important matches by one of the game’s greatest defenceman during an especially memorable international tournament, we expect substantial bidding.
Regarding the photo-matches, Getty Image #1134814 (Feb 20, 2002 - QUARTERFINAL) has been matched to the dark marks visible just above the "N" of "EASTON" on the left glove, with the streak through the middle portion of the "T" of "EASTON" also visible, while Getty Image #72557808 (Feb 22, 2002 - SEMIFINAL) appears to show the long streak through the "ON" of "EASTON" on the right glove. Additionally, Getty Images #1181534 (Feb 22, 2002 - SEMIFINAL) and #78982413 (Feb 24, 2002 FINAL vs Canada) have both been matched to the end portion of the long streak through the "ON" of "EASTON" on the right glove.
