Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
From the talented Stanfield hockey family that also included brothers Jack and Fred, Jim Stanfield first spent time in the OHA with St Catharines before seasons in the CHL. The Toronto native would see 7 games with the Los Angeles Kings, and from his time in the WHL, we offer a rare and highly sought San Diego Gulls jersey worn by Stanfield in the early-to-mid-1970s. Remnants of labels remain affixed along the collar, with the vintage durene garment measuring-out to roughly a size 52 (a General Athletic laundering label is also affixed to the inside seam). Styled with “Gulls” arching across the chest in layered tackle twill, “7” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with “Stanfield” across the oval nameplate in navy blue twill. We should further note that there is evidence of a former nameplate, with the jersey also showing that it previously had double-digits over the reverse and sleeves. Heavy use is exhibited on the tie-neck sweater, with wear to the material throughout including marks, pilling and pulls, with a small hole beneath the team crest. There are also team repairs, with examples over the front (5), reverse (4) and sleeves (1).
