Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
Created with the relocation of the unsuccessful Los Angeles Sharks to the Detroit area following the 1973-74 WHA season, the Michigan Stags lasted a mere 43 games before folding due to financial difficulties in January of 1975. As such, any and all surviving Stags jerseys are especially rare and sought by collectors. This example was worn by Reg Thomas. Wilson labeling with “46” sizing sits along the collar, with a multi-coloured and partially-embroidered team crest utilized. Layered tackle twill numbers are sewn to the sleeves and verso, with “Thomas” over the affixed nameplate in single white twill. The vintage garment also sports a garter-style fight strap. Showing nice game-use with marks present including a large stick mark near the team crest, there is also pilling in areas and puckering to the reverse of the team crest, with “stretch marks” to the interior sleeves. We should also note that there is evidence of a former nameplate, with John Miszuk also listed as wearing #21 (as well as #5).
