Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

A very infrequent and absolutely fabulous opportunity to acquire a unique and coveted pre-war hockey card set is this stirring ensemble of 1936-37 O-Pee-Chee cards, with the die-cut design resulting in a challenge to find Series “D” examples in attractive (and not “popped”) condition. The cards of six Hall of Fame legends have recently been assessed and encapsulated by KSA, with former NHL “bad boy” Red Horner leading condition-wise at 6.5 ENM+ and followed closely by icons Eddie Shore and King Clancy, both at 6 ENM. Slabbed 5 EX is Charlie Conacher, while Canadiens’ legends Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat contribute at 4 VGE. The raw rest also feature a mix of cards that exhibit even toning (21) and examples which do not (9). We count 20 crease-free cards similar to the graded six-pack (in the KSA 4-5-6 range), led by rookie cards of Syl Apps and Mike Karakas, along with those of HOFers 102-Lionel Conacher, 117-Ebbie Goodfellow, 124-Busher Jackson and 128-Lynn Patrick, with a tad more corner wear dropping HOFers 98-Sweeney Schriner RC and 131-Larry Aurie to VG. A light or small crease is spotted in just five cards (VG or VG+); 110-Cain, 116-Wentworth, 126-Trottier, 127-Blinco and 132-Hooley Smith, while a Turk Broda rookie card is the only low grade Poor example, with creases and multiple pieces of tape on the back to note. One other card, 105-Neil Colville RC, has the remnants of a piece of tape on the reverse but displays similarly to the better group. Deserving of ample consideration, this thought-provoking pre-war booty awaits its new appreciative home.
