Hockey’s most iconic rookie card is Wayne Gretzky’s 1979-80 issue which has risen to lofty heights, with serious collectors and investors from all segments of the hobby tuning-in to its importance and desirability. Offered here in tempting NM-MT 8 form is famous card #18, picturing the phenom from Brantford, Ontario during his first pro season and not long after a trade from the World Hockey Association’s financially-failing Indianapolis Racers to the Edmonton Oilers. After a WHA-NHL merger, The Oilers joined hockey’s best league for the 1979-80 season and what hockey fans in Edmonton and around the NHL witnessed during the following decade could have never been imagined – what an exciting time in hockey history. Wayne later kept scoring and setting up goals for the Kings, Blues and Rangers and when his unfathomable career finally came to an end, The Great One held, get this, 40 regular season records, 15 playoff records and six All-Star Game records. He performed quite well for Canada in international competitions too! For those of you unaware of Gretzky’s smashing dominance of his sport, we enjoyed recounting some of it for you and commend all those with a desire to own a high grade Gretz rookie card. In the latest of PSA holders is this example, with its registration, immaculate-looking surface and perfect side-to-side centering among its attributes. A superb addition to your Gretzky collection/portfolio it will be.
A couple of minuscule scratches to the front of the holder are near the shaft of Wayne’s Titan stick, where the white and yellow of the boards meet.
