Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Representing his nation proudly for a second time at the IIHF World Championships, Dale Hawerchuk and Team Canada would lose only a single match at the 1986 tournament, with the powerful Soviets taking home the gold. Ducky would contribute 6 points in his 8 games. This stick has been attributed to use by Hawerchuk at the 1986 World Championships. A Louisville Custom Lite model with “Hawerchuk” in bold black letters on the upper shaft, with the stick retaining the original white tape on the blade and spiral pattern over the handle. All identifiers on the shaft have been blocked-out, with this common during the era for international matches, with Dale signing over the front side heel in blue marker, further augmenting the lumber with a second John Hancock placed over the blade tape in silver. There is also a date stamp on the underside of “MAR 20 1986” (the World Championships began on April 12th). The stick shows appropriate game-use with wear to the taped section of blade and handle along with additional wear and marks to the shaft. A small label with “Dale Hawerchuk Canada Cup 1986” is also affixed to the shaft, and we should note that a YouTube video of the April 24th match vs the Soviets appears to show Hawerchuk using a blacked-out shaft at both 1:35 of 5:36, but the quality is especially poor and could not serve as a definitive match.
